Because hot smoke rises, it may accumulate beneath the atrium roof and spread toward adjacent floors. The system therefore needs to remove smoke from the highest level while introducing replacement air from below. The exhaust airflow, makeup-air volume and pressure relationship must be calculated together so that incoming air does not disturb the upper smoke layer.
Why HTF-A and HL3-2A Fans Were Selected
HTF-A axial fire exhaust fans are the preferred high-level exhaust equipment. Available double-speed configurations can support low-speed daily ventilation and high-speed emergency exhaust, while the series is designed for operation at 280°C for 30 minutes. Where the exhaust ducts are longer or more complex, an HTFC centrifugal fire exhaust fan can be evaluated according to the required airflow and total resistance. HL3-2A mixed-flow fans provide low-level makeup air because their compact structure combines relatively high pressure with large airflow. SWF axial fire fans may also be considered where the installation layout is more suitable.

Roof-level exhaust openings connect through fire-resistant ducts to the HTF-A or selected HTFC fans, directing smoke toward an outdoor discharge position. HL3-2A fans introduce makeup air through ground-floor grilles or low-level openings on the opposite side of the atrium. The electrical control system connects with the fire alarm system: under normal conditions the ventilation equipment can operate at low speed, while an emergency signal switches the designated exhaust and makeup-air equipment to the required fire mode.

This arrangement separates the functions of high-level smoke removal and low-level air replacement while allowing selected equipment to support both routine ventilation and emergency operation.
