Fire Exhaust Fan Solution: Tackling Vehicle Exhaust and Fire Safety Standards in a Dubai Skyscraper

In the bustling Business Bay of Dubai, UAE, a landmark ultra-tall commercial office building features a deep, three-level underground parking garage. Buried completely underground and entirely cut off from natural ventilation, this space became a trap for vehicle exhaust and waste heat.

During the daily morning and evening rush hours, the idling engines of thousands of cars caused carbon monoxide (CO) concentrations to spike dangerously. More critically, the garage had to meet extremely stringent municipal building fire safety and smoke exhaust standards. The property management urgently needed a smartly controlled and absolutely reliable dual-purpose ventilation and fire exhaust fan system to solve two major challenges:

  • Daily Exhaust Needs: Continuously extracting accumulated carbon monoxide and stale air out of the facility to ensure the safety of drivers.

  • Emergency Fire Compliance: If the exhaust equipment cannot withstand extreme high temperatures during a sudden fire outbreak, the entire building faces the disastrous consequence of being ordered to shut down for rectification by municipal authorities.

Following a rigorous engineering assessment, the POPULA technical team comprehensively introduced the HTF Series Axial-Flow Fire Exhaust Fan to the underground garage.

Specifically engineered for tall buildings and underground facilities, the core "double-speed motor" configuration of this fan perfectly resolved the client's conflicting needs:

  • Energy-Saving Daily Ventilation: Based on the zoning area, we selected multiple large-scale HTF-I-(A)-16A models. During normal daily operations, the fans run at a low-speed, energy-saving state, continuously providing a steady airflow to clear out CO and maintain absolute freshness in the underground space.

  • Instant Emergency Smoke Extraction: The fans are fully integrated into the building's fire alarm systems (FAS). The moment a fire triggers the smoke detectors, the HTF fans automatically transfer into high-speed smoke discharge mode, unleashing an astonishing exhaust volume of up to 115,280 m³/h.

  • Extreme High-Temperature Resistance: Most crucially, thanks to its specialized high-temperature-resistant structural design, this fire exhaust fan can run continually for more than 30 minutes even under extreme fire conditions where the air and smoke temperature reaches 280°C (536°F). This successfully secures the most precious golden evacuation window for occupants and incoming firefighters.

Upon completion, the building passed the Dubai municipal fire department's exceptionally rigorous inspection and acceptance tests on the first try. The HTF fire exhaust fans not only significantly reduced the daily electricity expenses for garage ventilation but also built an indestructible safety firewall for this mega commercial complex with their military-grade high-temperature smoke extraction performance.
