Industrial Centrifugal Fan Solution: Eliminating Extreme Heat Downtime in a Saudi Plastics Factory

Last summer, the outdoor ambient temperature in the Dammam 2nd Industrial City of Saudi Arabia exceeded 48°C (118.4°F) for several consecutive weeks. For a local large-scale plastics packaging and container manufacturing plant, however, the real disaster was unfolding inside the workshop. Dozens of massive injection molding and extrusion machines were densely arranged across the floor, radiating intense heat as they melted raw plastics. Due to aging ventilation equipment and insufficient static pressure, the hot air trapped at the top of the facility could not be discharged, causing the temperature in the core workspace to skyrocket above 55°C (131°F).
This extreme heat deadlock directly triggered two fatal operational issues. The first was frequent equipment downtime. The extreme ambient temperature caused the precise hydraulic systems and electrical control cabinets of the injection molding machines to frequently trigger high-temperature protection mechanisms. The entire production line suffered uncontrollable "automatic shutdowns" daily, leading to severe delivery delays and tens of thousands of dollars in lost capacity each day.

Secondly, the exhaust ducts were rendered useless. The client had attempted to install standard exhaust fans, but due to the large span of the factory, the exhaust gas had to travel through dozens of meters of complex ductwork to reach the outdoors. Conventional fans lacked the pressure required to overcome the air resistance within the ducts, causing hot air to accumulate and backflow into the workshop.
Upon receiving the urgent engineering request, our technical team precisely calculated the site's airflow resistance and thermal load. The diagnostic conclusion was clear: The client did not need more generic fans; they needed a powerful high pressure centrifugal fan system capable of overcoming long duct resistance and stably extracting high-temperature gases. The exhaust gas temperature at the site was approximately 60°C to 70°C, with minimal dust content in the air. This was the perfect operating condition for our 4-72 Series Industrial Centrifugal Fans. This series is explicitly engineered to transport non-corrosive, low-dust gases ≤80°C (176°F), and its most prominent advantage is its steady pressure curve.
We decisively dismantled all ineffective, legacy equipment and designed a brand-new, "point-to-point" high-pressure exhaust system based on the 4-72 Series:
For Core Main Line Exhaust: We deployed several 4-72 Type 12A centrifugal fans equipped with heavy-duty electric motors outside the workshop. Operating at 1,450 r/min, a single Type 12A provides a massive volume of nearly 100,000 m³/h and generates an impressive total pressure of up to 4,611 Pa. This tremendous suction power effortlessly overcomes the resistance of dozens of meters of exhaust ducting, instantly venting the high-temperature exhaust gas out of the facility.
For Local Auxiliary Exhaust: Targeting small and medium extrusion equipment, we paired the main system with multiple 4-72 Type 6A units (matching 5.5kW - 7.5kW motors) to provide a total pressure of up to 1,392 Pa. This precisely covered thermal dead zones within the workshop, ensuring a smooth negative-pressure airflow throughout the entire plant.
The system was not only straightforward to install, but the resulting operational improvements were immediate. The most notable change was a zero downtime rate. The powerful exhaust system forced the core workspace temperature down by more than 15°C. Since the system went live, the injection molding machine fleet has not experienced a single high-temperature alarm shutdown, restoring the factory's production capacity to 100% full load. Thanks to the excellent aerodynamic design and impeller dynamic balance of the 4-72 Series, the fans maintained exceptionally high efficiency and relatively low mechanical noise even under 24/7 operations, perfectly withstanding the harsh Middle Eastern industrial environment.
