Welding Workshop Fume Extraction Solution for Local Capture

General wall or roof ventilation alone cannot effectively control welding fumes near the operator’s breathing zone. Portable circulation fans may spread fumes across adjacent workstations instead of removing them.

Welding stations should therefore use suitable extraction points positioned close to the welding source. Branch ducts connect the workstations to a common main duct, while balancing dampers help maintain appropriate suction at both nearby and distant extraction points. This local capture system removes fumes before they disperse through the workshop.

9-19 High-Pressure Centrifugal Fan and Filtration

According to the supplied product information, the gas entering the 9-19 fan should not contain adhesive substances, its dust concentration should remain below 150 mg/m³, and its temperature should not exceed 80°C. The final model should be selected according to total airflow, filter resistance and duct pressure loss.

DWT Roof Exhaust and Passive Fresh Air

Local extraction controls welding fumes, but it does not remove all the heat that rises toward the workshop roof. A DWT-I fiberglass axial roof fan can be installed at the highest part of the building to exhaust accumulated hot air and residual airborne contaminants.

As hot air is discharged, the workshop develops slight negative pressure. Outdoor air then enters naturally through doors or low-level louvers on the opposite side of the building. This creates an airflow path from the cleaner area toward the welding area without requiring a separate powered supply fan.

The fresh-air openings must have sufficient free area. Openings that are too small may cause excessive negative pressure, uncomfortable drafts and reduced exhaust performance. If the roof exhaust system has higher resistance, a DWT-II centrifugal roof fan may be considered after calculation.
